Reflections on the 2010 Global Summit

Thursday, 20 May 2010 08:00

Throughout the week, volunteers, evangelists and staff made it clear through their comments and enthusiasm that they not only needed this conference but wanted this conference. Here are two quotes from the conference:

“…had an incredible time at the HOPE [worldwide] Global Summit...I don't use the phrase life changing often - but this sure was.
~ Raj Chandra, Milwaukee, WI

“What an incredible weekend in DC spending time with other faith based, non-profit leaders and volunteers from across the country and around the world. We collaborated and shared with one another how we can better serve the poor, free the oppressed and fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. I am truly inspired...
~ Kit Cummings, Atlanta, GA

Speakers included:

  • Mike Taliferro, Evangelist, Mission Point Christian Church, San Antonio, Texas: he kicked off the general weekend session by delivering an inspiring message titled “I will show you my faith by what I do.”
  • Chris Bryant, Founder of Chris Bryant Presents: he taught on the importance of having a “customer-centric” brand and servant mindset at HOPE worldwide.
  • Joshua DuBois, Director of the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships: he addressed the Chapters and International Directors, encouraging and urging volunteers and leaders to continue in service to the poor.
  • Jorel Claude from the Port-au-Prince Church of Christ in Haiti and Koko Enrile from the Manila Metro Christian Church in the Philippines: they inspired the more than 300 attendees with stories of those who were affected by recent disasters and lives that had been changed.

American Red Cross Honors HOPE worldwide
Joe Becker, Senior Vice President of Disaster Services of the American Red Cross, rallied Chapter Directors to continue as servant leaders in their communities and bestowed numerous HOPE worldwide Chapters with service awards for the 3-year preparedness program and the MLK Day of Service. In addition, Mr. Becker presided over a special award ceremony in which HOPE worldwide received the Motherland Statue from the National Office of the American Red Cross.
